LAKE CITY, Fla. – Current and prospective Florida Gateway College students looking for financial aid for 2024-25 will be able to complete a simplified Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting in December. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the redesigned application will streamline the process and expand eligibility for federal student aid.

“There are significant changes coming to the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year due to the FAFSA Simplification Act,” said Brandy Dean, FGC Director of Financial Aid. “Details concerning all of the changes are limited at this time, but as we receive information, the Financial Aid Office is dedicated and prepared to assist you every step of the way. Just think, a better FAFSA process means a better future for everyone.”

The FAFSA changes aim to expand Pell Grant access, reduce barriers for students with special or unusual circumstances, and clarify how eligibility for aid is calculated. Applicants will also be able to transfer available data directly from the IRS, making the submission of income information faster and easier.

Completing the FAFSA each year is a crucial step for current and future FGC students to reach their academic goals and overcome any financial barriers to their success. The form not only establishes eligibility for federal aid and Pell Grants, but also a wide array of state, local, and private scholarships available to FGC students.

While the new FAFSA for 2024-25 is not yet available, students and parents should prepare by creating an FSA ID on the official Federal Student Aid website, StudentAid.gov. By taking this important step now, families can stay informed and be ready to complete and submit the FAFSA when it is released in December.

Students can also contact the Financial Aid Office at FGC for guidance on the FAFSA, information on available grants and scholarships, and answers to any questions regarding student aid.
