Florida Gateway College students can now pursue a two-year Associate of Science Degree in Cybersecurity.

The new Cybersecurity AS program prepares students for careers in the growing and ever-evolving world of information security. Students learn to monitor networks and applications for cyberattacks and intrusions, conduct threat and vulnerability analyses, and coordinate and implement cyber incident responses.

Organizations across the country and around the world depend on IT professionals to secure their networks and data from cyberattack. As of 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the job market for information security analysts will grow 35 percent by 2031, adding an estimated 56,500 jobs. This rate of growth far outpaces the average of five percent for all occupations and indicates the increased demand for cybersecurity professionals in the future.

“There are only enough cybersecurity professionals in the U.S. to fill 66 percent of job openings in the field,” said Dr. Mari Jayne Frederick, lead instructor for FGC’s new program. “Society is dependent upon technology for personal and business purposes, and, more than ever, companies need the expertise of cybersecurity professionals to prevent data theft and compromise.”

FGC’s AS program equips graduates with the skills and qualifications needed to enter this high-demand field and pursue career opportunities including, but not limited to:

  • Cyber Crime Analyst/Investigator
  • Cybersecurity Manager/Administrator
  • Cybersecurity Architect
  • Cybersecurity Engineer
  • Incident Responder
  • Information Security Analyst
  • Information Technology Support Technician

FGC is a CompTIA Academic Industry and Cisco Academy Partner and offers many IT certifications, including:

  • CompTIA Security+  – Globally recognized certification for entry-level cybersecurity professionals in identifying, analyzing, and responding to security breaches in a system network. Ideal for IT auditors, cybersecurity analysts, cloud engineers, and system administrators.
  • Cisco Certified CyberOps Professional – Validates holder’s ability to detect and respond to cyber threats.
