November 30, 2023 Kevin Downing Selected as Fall 2023 FGC Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Share Share this post Twitter Facebook eMail Copy URL Copy LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College has selected Mr. Kevin Downing to receive the honor of Fall 2023 FGC Distinguished Alumnus of the Year at the college’s Fall Commencement Ceremony. Mr. Downing came to Florida Gateway College (then Lake City Community College) 50 years ago in 1973 to earn his Associate Degree from the college’s Golf Course and Landscape Operations (GLO) program. After graduating in 1975, he embarked on a long and prestigious career, leading landscape, agronomy, and golf course operations at multiple courses as superintendent and director of golf and landscaping. For nearly 20 years, Downing has been the owner of Three Putt Services & Nursery in Jupiter, Florida, providing active course management, consulting services, and mentoring for course superintendents. Since his time at the college, Downing has served on FGC’s GLO advisory council and maintained a deep connection with Lake City and the FGC community that played such a pivotal role in his early career. “I am honored to be selected as the Alumnus of The Year by FGC administration and the Board of Trustees,” Downing said. “From my first time on campus in 1973, I felt a great connection to the school and the GLO program. The guidance from the teachers and advisors has been a benefit throughout my career. It has been an honor to give back to the school through my involvement, and I sincerely hope that continues in the years to come.” Mr. Kevin Downing will accept the Distinguished Alumnus Award during the FGC Fall 2023 Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, December 14, 2023 in the Howard Center. With 148 graduates expected to participate, the Fall ceremony will be one of FGC’s largest in recent memory. The program will include remarks from Mr. Downing, FGC President Dr. Lawrence Barrett, members of the college’s Board of Trustees, and student speakers.
