LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College Athletics is excited to announce that 17 players have officially been added to the roster of the newly revived FGC Women’s Softball team, which will begin competing in the Fall of 2023.

Earlier this year, FGC announced the return of women’s softball after a 15-year hiatus and the hiring of Jimmy Williams to the lead the new team as head coach. Today, the college introduces the first group of players who will carry on FGC’s long and proud history in the sport.

“Recruiting is going well,” said Williams on preparations for the 2023-24 season. “The players I have signed are really excited, and so am I. I’m excited about the excitement they have.

“The opportunity for local girls is tremendous. Many of these athletes have been dreaming about playing college ball since they were little, and FGC providing this opportunity is really a dream come true. The support from the college administration has been great, and we are all looking forward to the start of the season.”

Of the 17 athletes joining FGC Softball, 11 come to the college from the local North Florida region.

2023-2024 FGC Women’s Softball:

Megan Bint                                        OF                          Deltona High School
Megan is a multi-position player who loves the game and has great instincts.

Cheyenne Boggs                              C/IF                        Williston High School
Cheyenne has a strong arm and a good bat. She will be an agri-business major at FGC.

Hayley Burke                                     OF                          Union County High School
Hayley is an experienced, well-coached player who has a lot of natural ability in the outfield.

Ainsley Burry                                     P/MI                      Forest High School
Ainsley will be a nice complement to our pitching staff. She will be an agri-business major at FGC.

Reese Chasteen                               C/Corner             Columbia High School
Reese is a former CHS player with a big bat. We are expecting her to lead the team in RBIs.

Baylee Goff                                        MI                          Lemon Bay High School
Baylee is a fast, smart player who plays year-round.

Peyton Hatcher                                MI/C                      Dixie County High School
I am really excited to have Peyton on our team! She has a chance to be one of the best players in the conference.

Kayla Hooper                                    C/Corner             Buchholz High School
Kayla is a great, multi-talented kid who can play anywhere on the field.

Karley Jerrels                                    P/IF                        Williston High School
Karley is a super athlete who played multiple sports. I expect her to have a big impact on our program.

Shanie Keene                                    OF                          Chiefland High School
Shanie is probably the best athlete out of Chiefland HS. She will be a big part of our outfield.

Alexandra Messina                         P                             Parrish Community High School
I am thrilled to have Ally on our team. I expect her to give us a lot of innings on the mound.

Grace Quincy                                     IF                            Chiefland High School
Grace is a natural infielder with a great work ethic and attitude.

Hailey Rivera                                     OF                          Union County High School
Hailey is transitioning into being an outfielder, and I am expecting a big contribution from her.

Hannah Rivera                                  OF                          Union County High School
Hannah plays very similar to her sister, and I think their understanding of each will really help us.

Georgia Turner                                 OF                          Lake Minneola High School
Georgia makes everyone around her play better. She will be a natural leader for our outfield.

Starla Vaughn                                   C                             Union County High School
I am expecting big things from Starla behind the plate. She brings a lot to our program.

Amanda Whalen                              P/MI                      Harmony High School
Amanda was the first player to commit to FGC and is a proven winner. I expect her to be one of our starting pitchers.

The FGC Women’s Softball roster will continue to grow, as Coach Williams has several more potential athletes in talks to join the team.
