July 24, 2023 FGC Women’s Cross Country Earns Second-Highest GPA in the Nation; Six FGC Athletes Named to NJCAA All-Academic Teams Share Share this post Twitter Facebook eMail Copy URL Copy LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College student-athletes are receiving national recognition for their success in the classroom, as well as on the field, court, course, and arena. The NJCAA has named FGC Women’s Cross Country a 2022-23 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year and recognized them for maintaining the second-highest GPA in the nation for Women’s Cross Country teams. In addition, six FGC student-athletes have been named to the 2022-2023 NJCAA All-Academic Teams, with three players maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. “We are really proud of our student-athletes for this honor,” said Chris Hackett, FGC Athletic Director. “It is a team effort between the coaches recruiting serious students, the support system we have in place at FGC, and the athletes making a commitment to their education.” First Team: 4.00 GPA Kayla Desmartin Sophomore Women’s Cross Country Ashlyn Speigner Freshman Women’s Cross Country Antewan Webber Freshman Men’s Basketball Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA Eric Canavan Sophomore Men’s Basketball Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA Kyla Desmartin Sophomore Women’s Cross Country Morgan Wilson Freshman Women’s Cross Country These awards cap off an incredible 2022-23 season of Timberwolf Athletics which saw three teams compete in national tournaments, with Women’s Flag Football winning the first-ever NJCAA National Title. FGC Athletics maintains the highest standards for performance, both on and off the field, and is dedicated to developing well-rounded student-athletes who make their college and communities proud.
