LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College has been awarded a grant in the amount of $200,000 under the Florida Department of Education’s Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Program. The funds will be used to upgrade and renovate the college’s welding instructional facilities, significantly increasing student capacity with a particular focus on dual enrollment students.

The project will begin with upgrades and modernization of the facility’s wiring to accommodate the added electrical load of an expanded welding program. Renovations will grow the facility from 27 welding booths to 40 and bring student capacity to a total of 80 across two Occupational Certificate programs – Welding Technology and Advanced Welding Technology.

Planning is currently underway to begin work on the facilities. The renovation project and expanded student capacity are anticipated to be completed for the Fall 2024 term.

FGC is a Lincoln Electric Education Partner School (LEEPS) and an NC3 Leadership School training students on state-of-the-art technology. Graduates of the Welding Technology programs will be well-positioned to find employment in an industry that is in high demand and growing in the region and throughout the State of Florida.
