Florida Gateway College recently received confirmation from the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON) that the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASDN) program has been officially released from its temporary probationary status. This brings the program into line with the rest of FGC’s high-performing Nursing programs.

FGC Nursing programs have long been high performers in passage, graduation, retention, and employment. The RN-BSN program maintains a graduation rate of 100%, a retention rate of approximately 90%, and an employment rate of 100%. Many graduates of this program go on to Masters and Doctoral programs and excel in their further studies. Practical Nursing program graduates have a certification passage rate of 100%. This recent improvement in the ASDN NCLEX passage rate brings the program up to speed with the rest of FGC Nursing and ensures that the college continues to provide top-quality instruction to the healthcare providers of the future.

Dr. Shane Neely-Smith, PhD., RN, Executive Director of Nursing and Health Sciences, said “We continue to work diligently as a team in an environment where we value and practice within a culture of excellence, safety, caring, and inclusiveness to achieve the program’s mission, goals, and expected outcomes.”

A letter from FBON’s Director of Nursing Education, Sherri Sutton-Johnson, states that FGC’s ASDN program “has achieved a graduate passage rate that meets or exceeds the required passage rate for calendar year 2020” on the 2020 National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

After the program was placed on temporary probation last year, extensive steps were taken to bring the program’s NCLEX passage rate back into compliance with FBON’s requirements. Additional staff were hired to oversee testing, remediation, and lab simulation and to ensure quality clinical experiences for students in the program.

FGC has invested in high quality supplemental resources for the Nursing programs to enhance NCLEX preparation and readiness. A student area was renovated to allow social and study space near Nursing classrooms and labs, and the use of uniforms was instituted to improve professionalism in preparation for medical practice. Six new simulators were also purchased for the Nursing Simulation Lab.
