Guntersville, Ala. – The Florida Gateway College Bass Fishing Team took the top prize and $2,000 at the MLF Abu Garcia College Fishing Presented by YETI event on Lake Guntersville in Alabama on Friday, March 4.

“The Florida Gateway Wolfpack is on the move,” said Coach Glenn Cale. “They are starting to work together as a club, college anglers pursuing their dreams and getting it done in the classroom and on the water. I’m very proud of them all, representing the college and themselves and their families.”

FGC anglers Seth Slanker and Jackson Swisher brought in 29 pounds, 12 ounces with a five-bass limit, beating out 219 other teams in the event.

“It’s such a great feeling to go back-to-back on winning two college tournaments in a row,” said Swisher. “This season has set up great for us Florida boys. The whole team is having an amazing season so far. The whole team is working together so well, and that’s a huge factor in the success of the team this year.”

“Even though it wasn’t our first collegiate win,” said Slanker, “obtaining this win in out-of-state waters against tough teams is something we’ve been working towards for a long time. We went into the tournament fishing our strengths – shallow water – since we knew the water temperature was going to rise throughout the week.

“It feels incredible to bring back this win against 219 teams to Lake City, Florida, and represent FGC to another level. We are so thankful to come back to a community that is always steadfast in supporting us, win or lose.”
