LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College has selected the 2024 inductees into the FGC Athletics Hall of Fame. David Kessler and Glenn Wyche, both veterans of FGC Men’s Basketball, will be honored at the 2023-2024 FGC Athletic Banquet & Hall of Fame Induction on April 13, 2024.

David Kessler played basketball for FGC (then Lake City Community College) from 1977 to 1979, after a 1,000-mile drive to Lake City from his home near Buffalo, New York. During his time with the Timberwolves, he was named to the 1979 All State Tournament Team by the Florida Community College Activities Association (now the Florida College System Activities Association).

Kessler was nominated to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges” for the 1978-79 academic year and that year graduated with his AA in Criminal Justice. He went on to receive a full scholarship to Georgia State University and played for the GSU Panthers.

Kessler served as a police officer for DeKalb County, Georgia, for twenty years. He retired as a Commander after serving in numerous Uniform and Detective positions for units including Financial Crimes and Crimes Against the Elderly. He was later recruited to be Chief Investigator of the Ohio Attorney General’s Child and Elder Protection Section and served there for eight years. He then served as Chief Investigator for the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office in Ohio for eight years before retiring in 2017.

Glenn Wyche signed with LCCC after building an impressive record with Columbia High School and played for the Timberwolves from 1988 to 1990. In his sophomore year with the Wolves, he averaged 23 points and 13 rebounds for the season and was awarded Most Valuable Player.

Wyche received a full scholarship to Jacksonville State University. In his senior year at JSU, the team finished the regular season 28-1, with the sole loss being by only one point. That year, Wyche and JSU won the Gulf South Conference Championship, NCAA South Regional Championship, and made it to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

After his playing career at JSU came to an end, Wyche attended FGC’s police academy and began his career with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. He served there for nine years and retired as Detective Sergeant. After retirement, he embarked on another career as an Inspector for the Department of Corrections. He currently serves as a Special Agent with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Kessler and Wyche will accept their awards during a ceremony at this year’s FGC Athletic Banquet.
