Our world depends on the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). If you’re interested in exploring and expanding scientific frontiers and advancing technology, FGC offers a variety of programs that give you a foundation for exciting careers in the STEM. From one semester certificate programs to a Bachelor of Applied Science program, students gain an understanding of their area of study though research, analysis and application. Choose from programs related to computer programming, computer networking, environmental science, horticulture and water resources. In addition, you can choose from the two partnership programs of Biotechnology and Veterinary Technology, which allow you to complete the general education requirements at FGC and the core program classes at another Florida college.

Biotechnology, A.S.

This specialized program is in partnership with Santa Fe College. Students will enroll at Florida Gateway College to complete their general education courses. Specialized biotechnology courses, many of them offered online, will be offered by Santa Fe College (SFC), and the A.S. degree in Biotechnology is awarded by SFC. This is a selective admission program. Computer Office Specialist with Programming, C.C.C.

This program can be completed entirely online.

The Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate is designed to give the student marketable skills in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on spreadsheet and database management, web development or desktop publishing skills and some basic Windows programming skills that can be used in advanced spreadsheet and database management applications.

Computer Support Specialist with Programming, C.C.C.

This program can be completed entirely online.

The Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate is a direct follow up to the Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate. Once you have passed the basic six classes for the Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate, the student needs only five more classes to obtain the Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate. This certificate increases the student’s skills in the area of networking, hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting, and either web development or desktop publishing skills.

Advanced Horticulture, C.C.C.

Horticulture is the branch of agriculture that deals with the art, science, technology and business of growing plants. It includes the cultivation of all edible plants and non-food crops such as grass and ornamental trees and plants. It also includes plant conservation, landscape restoration, landscape/golf course design, construction, maintenance and arboriculture. Horticulturists apply their knowledge, skills and technologies used to grow intensively produced plants for human food and non-food uses and for personal or social needs. Their work involves plant propagation and cultivation with the aim of improving plant growth, yields, quality, nutritional value, resistance to insects, diseases and environmental stresses.

Veterinary Technology, C.C.C.

This specialized program is in partnership with St. Petersburg College (SPC). Students will enroll at Florida Gateway College, complete their general education courses and then enroll at St. Petersburg College to complete the A.S. program. The SPC portion of the program is a full distance learning program. All SPC courses are online and students must work at least part-time for a veterinarian. This is a selective admission program. Water Quality Technician, C.C.C.

The Water Quality Technician Certificate program is designed to prepare individuals to enter the water quality field, in the area of water, wastewater or water distribution. The first two courses provide the scientific and mathematics background for students planning to enter the career field. The Special Topics courses satisfy the Florida DEP requirement for completion of a course of study in drinking water plant operator and/or wastewater treatment plant operator in order to qualify to take the operator’s certification test.

Water Resources Management, B.A.S.

Water Resources Management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of our most vital natural resource, and managers have to make difficult decisions on water allocation. More and more they have to balance diminishing supplies between ever-increasing demands.

  • Must complete an A.S. or A.A. degree with FGC and/or other accredited institution prior to enrollment in the B.A.S. program.
