LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Class of 2022 has achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE). In the first week of October, six program students took the exam, and all passed on their first attempt. The current national average for first-attempt pass rates is 81.5%

“Students want to enter our programs with some confidence that we will provide them with the tools they need to be successful,” said Nursing and Health Sciences Director Ann Brown, RN, MSN, CEN, NRP. “Professor Christine McLaughlin and Dr. Tanya Doidge have demonstrated that the PTA program here at FGC does a stellar job at preparing our students for success on their certification exam as well as in the healthcare industry.”

The NPTE is a four-hour, 200-question exam designed to assess the students’ basic entry-level competence post-graduation in order to be licensed in the field. It tests the students on a wide range of topics, including the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neuromuscular, lymphatic systems, and more.

Now that these students have passed the national licensure exam, they must go on to take the Florida Laws and Rules Examination to receive their licenses and begin their PTA careers.
