Florida Gateway College graduate Caleb Dumas is set to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta this weekend.

In April, Caleb competed at the State Leadership & Skills Conference held in Jacksonville, Florida, along with the top 3 students from each of Florida’s six regions. There he took first place and qualified to represent the State of Florida at the National Conference competition.

Caleb will go up against the post-secondary HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) contest winners from each state and US territory for the national title. The HVACR competition consists of a series of testing stations where participants are evaluated on their knowledge of industry standards and skills in completing work on a range of equipment including small package HVAC units, split system units, refrigeration systems, and others.

Dumas graduated from FGC’s Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning Program in Fall 2022 and is employed at Bertie’s Heating and Air in Gainesville, Florida.

SkillsUSA serves more than 331,000 middle-school, high-school, and postsecondary students and instructors in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations with a focus on the development of technical skills, knowledge, and leadership qualities.

The SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference will be held June 17-23, 2023, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
