LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College Athletics is excited to announce the return of Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Golf programs to the Timberwolf sports lineup.

Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Golf were two of the sports initially introduced when FGC first revived its athletics program for the 2017−2018 season. The programs were later paused as FGC Athletics developed into the thriving organization it is today. Now, the teams will return to the court and the course, beginning competition in Fall 2027. This will bring the full slate of FGC Athletics for the 2027−2028 season to a total of 12 teams across men’s, women’s, and coed collegiate sports.

Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Golf Coaches Selected

Florida Gateway College has chosen two individuals with extensive experience in teaching, coaching, and competition to oversee the renewal and development of the reestablished programs.

Laura Kinsel has been selected as Head Coach of FGC Women’s Volleyball. During school, Kinsel played volleyball for both Cedar Key School and the Gainesville Juniors Volleyball Club. After joining the US Air Force, she was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where she played on her base’s coed league team alongside former Olympians.

Since returning to Florida in 2015, Kinsel has spent years coaching and nurturing student-athletes in the region, including as head coach at Corinth Christian Academy, five years as head coach at Suwannee High School, and four years as assistant coach at Santa Fe College. In 2019, she started Suwannee Stealth Volleyball Club to build a passionate volleyball community and create more opportunities for female athletes in the area.

“I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to build a new legacy of Timberwolf Volleyball,” Kinsel said. “As the new head coach at FGC, I look forward to establishing a culture that will represent our school and our community well―a culture of family, excellence, and resilience―with athletes who understand the value of hard work, a positive growth mindset, and who are passionate about this sport we love so much.”

C.J. Proveaux has been selected as Head Coach of FGC Men’s Golf. He has spent more than 30 years involved in the world of golf as a player, teacher, and pro.

In addition to serving as Assistant Golf Professional and Head Golf Professional at multiple golf courses in his career, Proveaux has been responsible for recognizing and developing talent, running junior golf programs and giving thousands of lessons to players ranging from beginner to highly skilled.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the Florida Gateway College Men’s Golf program,” Proveaux said. “I’m excited to build a culture of hard work, accountability, and excellence while helping our student-athletes reach their full potential both on the course and in the classroom. I look forward to building a program that our college and community can be proud of.”

Planning for program development and recruitment is now underway in preparation for the 2027−2028 season.
