Health Information Technology, Associate in Science (A.S.)
The mission of the Health Information Technology (HIT) programs at Florida Gateway College is to provide quality and affordable HIT programs that will produce highly educated and highly skilled graduates who will meet the workforce needs of our communities while making a commitment to lifelong learning.
The Health Information Technology Associate in Science degree is designed to prepare the graduate to work with and manage health-related information. Health Information Technicians collect, organize, analyze, and manage data used in the healthcare profession. Most health information technicians, also known as HIT professionals, work in a variety of settings including healthcare facilities, insurance companies, and government agencies. The Health Information accreditor of Florida Gateway College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for the Associate in Science degree in Health Information Technology has been reaffirmed through 2028. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) national certification exam.
Program hours will vary. Courses are offered in both hybridand online formats.

A student interested in the Associate in Science in Health Information Technology degree program is required to meet all general admission requirements of Florida Gateway College and achieve acceptable scores on the college placement exam.
