S&S Food Stores signs 5-year deal to support FGC Athletics

In 2017, intercollegiate athletics returned to Florida Gateway College after a decade. Reintroducing a sports program comes with a lot of challenges, but with the help of community partners, the endeavor has been a rousing success.

Key to making this possible have been the generous contributions of S&S Food Stores.

S&S has committed to five years of support for FGC Athletics, and, in the first year of the deal, has already made basketball and volleyball games in the Howard Center a great time for fans.

They have donated a variety of food service equipment and drink coolers, allowing FGC to expand game day food and beverage offerings. In addition to the equipment, S&S has donated all food and beverages sold at home games, including candy, popcorn, hotdogs, chips, and soft drinks, at no cost to FGC.

Of course, all these snacks need a home. With the help of S&S, FGC was able to purchase a physical concession stand to bring a true game day experience to fans. You’ll find the “S&S Snack Stop” in the lobby of the Howard Center.

The donation of all these supplies and equipment means that the cost to FGC for these items is $0. No overhead means that every penny of every “S&S Snack Stop” sale goes directly to support FGC Athletics.

“Supporting our community is at the forefront of everything we do,” said Brandon Beil, S&S Special Projects Supervisor. “Lester and Anne Scaff, the late founders of S&S, built a culture of giving back, and our new owners, Southwest Georgia Oil Company are dedicated to honoring Lester and Anne’s legacies.”

In addition to supporting FGC Athletics, the Foundation for Florida Gateway College was proud to be one of the recipients of the proceeds from this year’s Inland Family Foundation Golf Tournament, run by Southwest Georgia Oil Company.

With cash and these in-kind donations, the total contributions from S&S over the next five years could reach $100,000.

“The opportunity to partner with FGC was a no-brainer,” added Beil. “It is a pleasure for us to provide resources that will help grow the programs at FGC and, most importantly, support the students who are an integral part of our community and future workforce.”
