In addition to his role as a teacher, Dr. Smith has presented papers at numerous conferences. His publications include the monograph Nordic Art Music: From the Middle Ages to the Third Millennium (Praeger, 2002) and scholarly articles on various composers and musicians, as well as the music history of the Barents Region. Dr. Smith is a member of the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA) and Florida Humanities Council.
