Dual Enrollment Highlights

Shonglee Ho

Florida Gateway’s statement “Start here, go anywhere” is, to me, probably one of the most accurate representations of what the college has to offer to students. Through the dual-enrollment program, I got my first taste of what is to be expected from me at a college setting during my sophomore year in high school. As my final months in high school approach graduation, I’ve come to truly appreciate opportunities that I’ve been given in my three years of enrollment at FGC. I’ve always known that I wanted to go into the medical field, but, I had no idea how I would even begin my journey to get there. FGC has allowed me to complete a large portion of the classes I’ll need for my degree in biology, given me the tools, resources, and know-how to steer myself in the right direction in college, as well as prepared me to tackle higher-level courses at whatever major university I choose to attend. Did I mention, all at no monetary cost to me! I truly believe that Florida Gateway College has given me a fantastic head start in a highly competitive field and I’m excited to see where the opportunities may lead me.

Success is the ambition of every student; in fact, the whole purpose of education is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a particular field. The dual-enrollment program at Florida Gateway College affords me the opportunity to take big steps toward that success. The program enables me to pursue an Associates degree while still attending high school. It would be impossible for me to keep up with both my high school and college workload, but some of the classes I take at FGC, also satisfy the requirements for high school graduation. The credits from the Associates in Arts degree that I’m pursuing are also transferrable, so I can continue my education at another institution. Dual-enrollment is also a great introduction to college life; it helps prepare me for future challenges. I’m excited to know that through this program, I can attain an Associates degree simultaneously with my high school diploma, giving me the foundation I need to further my education. Dual-enrollment really is an opportunity to “Start Here, Go Anywhere”.
