Florida Gateway College offers three associate degrees and five college credit certificates that offer training in the computer science and graphics fields. Three of the college credit certificates articulate into the higher level certificate and/or one of the computer associate in science degrees.

Computer Information Technology, A.S.

This two-year, 60 credit program provides students with the essential courses in general education as well as the specific courses to prepare for a career in computer technology and information systems. Integrating essential programming skills, hardware repair and upgrade skills, and business communications skills, the program provides a solid foundation for employment in a variety of industries.

This two-year, 64 credit program is designed to prepare students to enter a career in graphic design. Students develop technical and creative skills with layout, illustration, typography, digital graphics and photography, page layout, prepress, and Web design. Skills are developed on a computer production environment using current industry standard software. Visual communications through electronic and print reproduction methods are emphasized.

Computer Office Specialist with Programming, C.C.C.

The 18 credit hour Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate is designed to give the student marketable skills in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on spreadsheet and database management, web development or desktop publishing skills and some basic Windows programming skills that can be used in advanced spreadsheet and database management applications. Only six classes are required. This certificate will allow the student to transition easily into the next certificate, the Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate. This Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate can be taken entirely online.

Computer Support Specialist with Programming, C.C.C.

The 33 credit hour Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate is a direct follow up to the Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate. Once you have passed the basic six classes for the Computer Office Specialist with Programming certificate, you only need five more classes to obtain the Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate. This certificate increases the student’s skills in the area of networking, hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting, and either Web development or desktop publishing skills. The Computer Support Specialist with Programming certificate leads directly into one of the two computer A.S. degree programs.

The 21 credit hour Network Infrastructure program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology career cluster.

The program includes but is not limited to instruction in computer literacy; software application support; basic hardware configuration and troubleshooting; networking technologies, troubleshooting, security, and administration; and customer service and human relations skills

Video Game Design, C.C.C.

The 24 credit hour Video Game Design certificate is designed for students who are interested in working in the game development industry. Students will learn the basics of designing, writing, and producing for video games and will also be introduced to digital art and the actual process of creating a game from beginning to end. They will also be given the opportunity to create a small original game or game mod.

After completing this program, students will have a strong knowledge of the skills and equipment needed to develop modern video and computer games, enabling them to make an informed choice about their future education and career path.
