Program Overview

Nail Specialty, Occupational Certificate (O.C.) – 180 clock hours, 6 occupational credit hours

The Nail Specialty Certificate program provides students with the skills and techniques needed to become a Florida licensed Nail Specialist. This program is a one-semester program offered for the summer semester and features a very nice facility with professional state of art equipment emulating a nail salon of the nail industry. Students must pass the courses with C or better.

Testing Entrance Requirements

A Nail Specialist student only has to pass the FGC exit exam with an 85 or better, complete state-mandated services, and receive 180 hours to apply for DBPR Florida Nail Specialty licensure. Students do not take a state exam.

Program Details

Admission Requirements
  • To be considered for this course a student must be at least 16 years old and either a high school graduate or have a GED certificate, or be a non-high school graduate who has been out of high school at least six months.
  • Students must meet with an advisor in the Cosmetology program for admission.
Program Notes
  • New classes begin each May (Summer A Semester)
  • This program is based on clock-hour attendance. A student must complete the minimum specified hours to receive his or her certificate.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Students will perform natural nail services including manicuring and pedicuring.
  2. Students will learn about nail disorders and diseases.
  3. Students will learn advanced nail techniques, including artificial acrylic nails, gel nails, sculptured nails, and nail wraps.
  4. Students will learn the business side of the industry.
