Florida Gateway College has selected Ricky Hufty to be the head coach of the college’s brand new Women’s Flag Football Team.

Hufty has 11 years of experience coaching flag football at multiple high schools in Leon and Suwannee Counties. He is a graduate of FSU and helped start the university’s Club Flag Football team. He organizes and runs the statewide senior all-star game through the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA), is a member of the FHSAA Flag Football Advisory Board for the state, and has a background in scouting and player evaluation through eight years of work with XOS Digital (now Catapult Sports).

Throughout his coaching career, Hufty has also coached boys’ high school football, has taught high school science and mathematics, and has received awards including the 2018 FACA Meritorious Service Award and the 2017 All Big Bend Flag Football Coach of the Year.

“I am extremely excited and humbled to be named the Head Flag Football Coach at Florida Gateway College,” said Hufty. “We are going to build a program that exemplifies excellence both on and off the field in everything we do. We will put a premium on building a championship culture, developing a top-tier program structured around discipline, relentlessness, execution, and player development, and will work to make the FGC community proud.

“Our program will always be a ‘Players First’ program centered on relationships, people, and development in all aspects of their lives and in all aspects of our program. I cannot wait to get started.”

Dr. Lawrence Barrett, President of Florida Gateway College stated, “We are so excited to bring an additional women’s program to FGC, and we are the first college in Florida to name a coach and start recruiting for this upcoming very popular sport.”

The new program was announced by FGC in July of last year and will begin in Fall 2022 with the support of a $10,000 grant provided by the NJCAA Foundation, NFL FLAG, and RCX Sports.
